Health and welfare

Take care of yourself. And be merry!Staying healthy and happy is essential to achieving your goals in Oxford.
Sometimes life can be tough here, while health problems are hard to foresee and
can run the gamut from an ordinary cold to more serious illness or injury
requiring specialized professional care. Whatever the issue there are several
places you can turn to for help in Oxford. It's especially useful to know the
contact details of at least one welfare provider in your college and at least
one member of your JCR or MCR committee. If you need help but are not sure who
to talk to, then that person can point you in the right direction.
Your college will have its own system of welfare support, and every college does things in a different way. That being said most will provide similar services to those described in this section, though some may be called by a different name. In addition, the University provides some welfare services (such as the Counselling Service) that are available to students from all colleges and also has a number of offices (such as the Accommodation Office) that deal with specific issues. Finally, there are services (for example, the police) that are available to the public in general in the city of Oxford and you can find information about them in this Handbook as well as from your college. In particular, it is a good idea to know how to contact the emergency services and you can find that information in this section.
There are a variety of welfare services and providers that you can access as a student while at Oxford. Some will be based in your college, others at the University Offices. In addition, the City Council offers a range of services for all Oxford residents.
